When it completes, both peers know the PPPoE SESSION_ID and the peer's Ethernet address, which together define the PPPoE session uniquely: There are four steps to the Discovery stage.

PPPoE is an extension of the standard Point to Point Protocol (PPP) and it the successor of PPPoA.
